Yanukovich leads pres elections after 98% ballots counted
MOSCOW, Feb 8 (PRIME-TASS) -- Viktor Yanukovich, head of Ukraine's pro-Russian Party of Regions, is leading in a run-off in the Ukrainian presidential elections after almost 98.5% of the ballots have been counted, ITAR-TASS reported Monday.
According to the Central Election Commission, Yanukovich has so far received 48.6% of the vote, while Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko has received 45.81%. The latest data indicate that the gap between the presidential candidates is widening.
About 4.38% did not support any candidate and about 1.5% of ballots were invalid.
The election commission intends to count 100% of the ballots on Tuesday.
